E&LP designed the layout, material, and siting of the “Lawrence Hopewell Trail” on behalf of the Mercer County Park Commission. The trail runs through several sections of the park including historic farm buildings, vast areas of native meadows, and environmentally sensitive wetlands and woodlands. But perhaps the most sensitive area is where the trail runs directly adjacent to Rosedale Lake at the heart of the Mercer County Park system.
As part of the design, E&LP had to work with the existing lake berm and dam structures as well as the spillway, while preserving existing wetland vegetation. In addition, E&LP determined NJDEP Phase II, Flood Hazard Area, and Wetlands compliance requirements and designed the trail in such a way that the existing “green infrastructure” of the surrounding landscape and vegetation could be used in lieu of new costly structural improvements. The final trail integrates seamlessly into the form and structure of the lake as well as other areas of the park.
