This new school has the ability to not only provide a 21st Century learning environment for our students, but also an economic opportunity to impact the entire community by employing local residents and businesses during the construction of the project.
The Perth Amboy Public Schools District (PAPS) purchased an 11-acre abandoned housing parcel to make room for a 500,000-sf state of the art high school to replace the district’s aging and overpopulated school. Through the New Jersey Schools Development Authority (NJSDA) and PAPS, E&LP oversaw razing the housing complex, removal of impacted materials, and preparation of the property for the new high school. E&LP aided the NJSDA and PAPS in conceptualizing and planning for the expansion with municipal, state, and code officials by overcoming significant constraints concerning elevation, geotechnical engineering, utilities, and access.
The plan for developing the school involved creating security, infrastructure, physical circulation, and linkage to the surrounding community. The school was planned to meet or exceed the State of New Jersey Department of Education standards coordinating building criteria with the site infrastructure, topographic, and environmental constraints
