Last month, Lansdowne Borough in Delaware County awarded Studio Ludo and E&LP their McKinley Avenue Tot Lot project. We are excited for this playground project and to work again with Studio Ludo, who we have teamed with for many projects, including Philadelphia’s Tanner G. Duckrey School, Hoboken’s Northwest Resiliency Park, and the new Ocean County Park in Manchester Township. E&LP is providing civil engineering services for permitting, design development, and construction documentation and administration as well as a lighting plan and a demonstration raingarden. The tot lot, which is a playground intended for children under the age of 5, is funded by grants from the Pennsylvania Department of Conservation and Natural Resources (DCNR) and a Delaware County Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) and will be built on a property that is now an asphalt paved municipal parking lot.
E&LP looks forward to implementing the Borough’s important goals identified in the RFP: “Consider the value and opportunities that initially inspired the Borough to undertake the project which include the desires to:
- improve quality of life in a neighborhood by changing the use of a land asset from parking to recreation
- target tot-lot recreation amenities to young children/families with fewer resources to access backyard play space and such high-quality municipal-grade amenities
- reduce impervious surface and thereby increase compliance with MS-4 plans and stated goals
- increase adherence to the local ordinance 2019-03 regarding native plants
- increase the time youth spend on physically active recreation activities.”
