Construction is complete for 30 Mac[1], a LEED certified[2] 10-unit apartment building adapted from a former Masonic Temple[3] in Princeton’s Witherspoon-Jackson Historical District. The apartments include “studio, one-bedroom and two-bedroom units with contemporary materials and finishes … that maintain its historic appearance and charm” while providing the community two affordable housing units.[4] Within walking distance of Princeton’s downtown including its “restaurants, shopping, Princeton University and Historical landmarks,” 30 Mac illustrates how excellent design for adaptive reuse can enhance a community and honor its history in addition to modeling successful construction throughout pandemic conditions.[5]

The Witherspoon-Jackson Historic District,[6] “an African American residential district in north central Princeton”[7], is known for its “long history of social activity”[8] and it has been extensively researched by the city of Princeton and its Office of Historic Preservation,[9] including the 2015 “Survey and District Evaluation: Witherspoon-Jackson Community.”[10]

E&LP provided the following services for the project: Boundary/Topographic Survey, Preliminary and Final Site Plan Engineering Plans, Stormwater Management Plan, Soil Erosion and Sediment Control Plan, Local & Regional Permit Coordination, and Phase I UST Environmental Oversight.
