Climate Resources

To respond to our changing climate, adaptation is now a design driver and resiliency from the community scale to the global is paramount; informed, proactive strategic planning is leading to integrated infrastructure solutions in the built environment; infrastructure must be reimagined as public space, as refuge, as a living breathing system responsive to its context and community needs.

Climate Facts

“The East Coast suffers the most frequent coastal flooding and has generally experienced the largest increases in the number of flood days.”

– EPA

“Recurrent coastal flooding … impacts … more than 40 percent of Americans liv[ing] near the coast, and more than $1 trillion of property and structures is at risk.”

Hoboken Northwest Resiliency Park

In E&LP’s “Northwest Resiliency Park: Urban Planning for Physical and Social Resiliency” video, experts representing landscape architecture, civil engineering, and city planning discuss the innovative process involved in designing this world class park, which represents a massive undertaking by the City to protect its community from increasingly frequent flood events.  The video highlights the unique approach of integrating the physical and social resiliency through all aspects of the park design.

New Jersey Future Green Infrastructure Educational Resources

Over the past few years New Jersey has reimagined its state stormwater rules through the lens of green infrastructure. E&LP’s contribution to the development of the new rules during that timeframe culminated in leading the New Jersey Future and New Jersey Builders Association’s New Jersey Developers Green Infrastructure Guide 2.0 released in May 2020. The guide is a comprehensive print and web-based platform defining the rule changes, types of green infrastructure and their site suitability and maintenance requirements, Side-by-Side Comparisons, case studies, and FAQs in addition to other stormwater-related topics.

Stony Brook Site Analysis

As part of a decade long partnership in trail and park planning and development, E&LP worked with Mercer County Park Commission to study, site, and construct a trail and bridge crossing on the Stony Brook. We performed an extensive study for flooding, topography, and wetlands to arrive at suitable crossing locations and a bridge design with no environmental impact.

“Nine of the top 10 years for extreme one-day precipitation events have occurred since 1996.”

– EPA

“Sea level rise of two feet would more than triple the frequency of dangerous coastal flooding throughout most of the Northeast.”
