Outdoor classrooms are the new, exciting feature being installed at schools like Abram Jenks, James Dobson, Paul L. Dunbar, John Welsh, Frances E. Willard, and John H. Webster elementary schools as a part of the Fiesta Schoolyards Initiative. Research attests to the benefits of outdoor learning on mental health and academic performance like increased focus and fewer disciplinary issues¹. Fiesta Schoolyards establishes its values-Smart, Impactful, and Transformation-through affordable designs intended to create a safe environment that encourages play and learning throughout the School District of Philadelphia. These bright spaces will inspire the imagination necessary for children to become creative problem solvers and innovative thinkers.
