E&LP was engaged on an ongoing basis by the Morris County Park Commission to develop trail and site improvements at the historic Frelinghuysen Arboretum. Beginning with an extensive assessment of the existing trail network and conditions we developed repair, replacement, and new construction recommendations for the County. We also performed comparative performance and cost analysis on multiple material choices for the trail network.
Ultimately, the scope of the project at over 1.5 miles of trails, necessitated two NJDEP permits for freshwater wetlands and flood hazard area. E&LP worked with the DEP and the County to develop material choices and limits of disturbance that met permit compliance and maintained the aesthetic and durability the County desired. E&LP will take the project through construction and bid documentation and into construction. Due to the sensitive nature of the natural resources adjacent to the trail work and difficult site conditions and access a large portion of the work is planned to be field located and verified.
E&LP personnel will be on site regularly overseeing the limits of work, quality of installation, and confirming design parameters for design-build elements like custom boardwalks and footbridges which must be constructed in place per irregular field conditions.
