In June, the Borough of Allentown awarded Phase II of the Sgt. George Ashby Memorial Park project to E&LP, which will focus on establishing a native meadow on site, reflection grove, and a monument area dedicated to Sgt. George Ashby. E&LP has begun soil investigation for green stormwater infrastructure to be included in this phase.
E&LP led the public engagement and visioning campaign as well as Phase I where central connective paths of the park were installed with permeable pavement, upholding the project’s sustainability goals.
The three-acre park is nestled in the heart of downtown Allentown Borough which is known for being the crossroads of the American Revolution due to the number of skirmishes fought in the area. The park will play an important role in the Borough by honoring its many veterans, emphasizing site history, and serving as a central community park.
E&LP worked with the Borough to develop two public engagement events to solicit community input and develop the park’s program. Moreover, E&LP created the concept design and performed cost estimating and grant writing as part of our civil engineering and landscape architecture services.
